ABOUT
Amira Shea writes creative non-fiction, flash fiction, essays, children’s books, and the occasional random rant. She moved frequently as a child, so books and writing became her constant companions. After many years as a military and civilian translator, she decided to focus entirely on writing professionally. Her work has appeared in magazines and anthologies, and she has written and published a series of children’s books.
Representation matters and Black people, specifically Black women and girls, contain multitudes. She is adamant that the diaspora is recognized for more than their trauma. Our stories of otherness must be heard, written, and seen.
She believes that Black women like her, and Black women unlike her, all deserve their definition of unfettered, unburdened, unregulated happiness, and to live their best lives without apology.
Her parents are from Barbados and Louisiana, and the beach is her favorite natural setting.  She holds a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing, non-fiction, and a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese.

BOOKS
The Adventures of Amarys & Indigo
Amira based this series on the real-life adventures, great and small, of her own children in and around their Island home. She hopes to add another voice to the multi-cultural chorus and offer children of mixed heritage, particularly those of African-American descent, an opportunity to see themselves in the pages of storybooks.
Representation matters.
